Fruit Flies

To say we have a small fruit fly issue in the Cousineau household would be an understatement. We usually catch between 10-15 in the trap, but this time there are well over 30 fruit flies and a bunch more buzzing around the carcasses of their dead friends (pictured above). Now this post is not about catching fruit flies, although I can let you know how we catch them if you need to. No, this post is about sin.

The reason the fruit flies get caught is because they love the smell of the vinegar in the water. It entices them to find a way into the cup, which is covered in plastic. That’s the catch! There is no way OUT. Once they are in the cup, they are stuck for good. They can see their little dead buddies floating, sinking, stuck in the top, but it does not matter. That vinegar is all they want! They HAVE to have it. It is their deepest desire. Obviously fruit flies are not the smartest bugs, but when you boil it down we are not much different. Think about the last time you sinned. You knew what it would do. You knew it was wrong. You knew it was against the will of God for you life -yet you did it anyway. You wanted it so bad that you put aside all rational thinking and went after it and, like the fruit fly, were caught. You got stuck looking out from the trap, wishing you were not there, thinking maybe you will make it out, and knowing you should have never done what you did.

Remember that with humans there is forgiveness in Jesus. Accept that forgiveness; dwell in His forgiveness; allow the power that saves you from hell work in your life to save you from the vinegar that so entices you!

Flee these things… (1 Tim. 6.11)
