A pastor friend of mine, Jared Wilson, had a post over at his blog finishing the statement “Your Church Might Not be a Church if...” It got me thinking  about a Biblical youth ministry and some of the common mis-conceptions that abound in our world about what a youth ministry is. So, here are my thoughts

Your Youth Group Might not be a Biblical Youth Group if…

You never hear the word “sin” there.*

You hear the word “sin,” but only briefly or redefined as “mistakes.”*

You can’t remember when you last heard the name of Jesus in a lesson.*

You spend more time playing games then talking about Jesus.

There is no need for anyone to bring a Bible.

Students are not allowed to lead anything or do anything, that is the professionals job.

There are more videos than prayers.

Theres more game time then Bible time.

Your worship team is more about how loud, fast and current their music is, than talking about Jesus.

You have never used the Bible as your curriculum.

The majority of the small groups are oriented around sports or leisure, not study or service.*

You always feel comfortable there.

You have not confronted a kid about porn (because we know many are involved in it).

You only see the teens on the youth group night.

Mission means you move to another country.

Community is the building where people go to vote.

The youth don’t even know there are older people in the church.
